Marlow has very few moorings but it is about to be the site for the UK's first amphibious home. Normally the home will sit on terra firma but if the River Thames rises to flood levels it is capable of floating. The construction is underway now.
This technology has been pioneered in Maasbommel in the Netherlands and it is very exciting to see it come to the UK as it should pave the way for many more. Up to now houses on the River Thames that are replaced have to be able to cope with a 100 year flood level. This means that they are usually built with a raised basement that is allowed to flood. Often if the existing building was single storey no replacement could be built because the extra height required was not allowed.
